Spicy Tortilla Chips

Worthy of a Special Occasion

Yield: 12 servings (serving size: 4 chips)

Ingredients

  • 12  (6-inch) corn tortillas
  • 1/2  cup  lime juice
  • 1/4  cup  water
  • 1/2  teaspoon  garlic powder
  • 1/4  teaspoon  salt
  • 1/8  teaspoon  ground cumin
  • 1/8  teaspoon  ground red pepper

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350°.

Cut each tortilla into 4 wedges. Combine lime juice and water. Dip wedges in lime juice mixture; drain on paper towels. Arrange wedges in a single layer on a large baking sheet.

Combine garlic powder and remaining 3 ingredients; sprinkle evenly over wedges. Bake at 350° for 12 to 14 minutes or until crisp. Transfer chips to wire racks; cool completely.

Store chips in an airtight container.

I made this to go with CL's Tex Mex Bean dip and it got rave reviews from all my friends! I didn't have ground red pepper flakes, so I used a little chili powder for the heat. The lime juice makes them tangy and all of the spices complement any Mexican dip nicely!09/05/09
