Worthy of a Special Occasion

The tea mixture may appear curdled after you add the milk. But don't be alarmed; you'll be rewarded with a smooth, luxurious gelato when the mixture comes out of the ice-cream freezer.

Yield: 5 cups (serving size: 1/2 cup)

Ingredients

  • 3  cups  water
  • 1 1/2  cups  sugar
  • 5  Earl Grey tea bags
  • 2  tablespoons  fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2  cups  whole milk

Preparation

Combine water and sugar in a large saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, and add tea bags. Cover and steep 5 minutes; discard tea bags. Stir in juice; cool completely. Stir in milk.

Pour tea mixture into the freezer can of an ice-cream freezer; freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions.

I make this every year with rave reviews. Whole milk is a must simply because the amount of water in this recipe puts it on the icy side. Wonderful flavor, just like frozen tea! A nice treat for all ages.07/10/07

This is a really good gelato! Has a good fruity flavor. I took the advice of another post and only added one cup of sugar - I can't imagine adding more! It was great. Less sugar will cut back on the calories of this recipe too.07/30/05
