Worthy of a Special Occasion

Make this recipe ahead so the flavors can blend and mellow. Serve with pita chips.

Yield: 16 servings (serving size: 1 tablespoon)

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 3  cups  chopped onion (about 2 medium)
  • 3  tablespoons  low-fat sour cream, divided
  • 2  tablespoons  (1 ounce) block-style 1/3-less-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 3  tablespoons  light mayonnaise
  • 1/4  teaspoon  Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8  teaspoon  salt
  • Dash of ground red pepper

Preparation

Heat a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium-high heat. Add onion; sauté 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low; cover and cook 20 minutes or until golden brown, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; cool.

Combine 1 tablespoon sour cream and cream cheese, stirring well. Add remaining sour cream, mayonnaise, and remaining ingredients, and stir well to combine. Stir in onion. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

super good - took liberties with this after I followed the recipe the first time. Its excellent with some grated swiss cheese and I doubled the onions. I have even baked this in a bread bowl for a hot appetizer.02/05/10

Made this dip for our supper club a few months ago and it was very well received. It had a ton of flavor and was very simple to make. I would definitely make it again. Went very well with Stacey's naked pita chips.06/08/09
